Some of us are tired of working hard for little to no money. We wish we had a little more money in our pockets. Maybe then we could fund a dream project, take a much needed vacation or pay off some major debt. While a job can only pay you so much, maybe a side hustle can get you over the top. If you’re looking a starting your side hustle, here are some helpful tips to get you on your way.
Know Your WHY
Most people don’t just wake up and say they want to work for themselves or pick up secondary work. Most of it comes from need, but not all. A good motivator to get you going is knowing and understanding your WHY. For me, it’s paying off my home in the next ten years so I can partially retire. I’d like to run a small family garden and work on special projects out of want, not necessity. What’s your WHY?
What Are You Good At?
After figuring out your WHY, you need to figure out what your side hustle is going to be. I always say, start with something you’re good at. If you love art, start a crafting business and sell trendy home goods items. Like parties? Start a party planning service. You can also use the job you are currently at to generate side hustle ideas. Lots of people do consult work, but for me, I write. While I do not always love doing it, I’m good at it. It comes easy, the is work simple, and my clients are always happy.
Marketing Yourself
Once you figure out what you’re going to do, it’s time to drum up business. There are several ways to do this. If your selling crafts, check out sites like Etsy or your local Facebook Yardsale groups. You can advertise on freelance sites, ask past clients of your business if they would spread the word, or even use the new app Clubhouse to gain traction. Whatever you do, be true to yourself and stay motivated to reach your goals.
